Creative Dreams: Using Scanners for Innovative Capture
FEBRUARY 19-25, 2006 - Santa Fe Workshops

Imagine being able to capture the nuances of flowers, leaves, other three-dimensional objects, vintage photographs, letters, ephemera, and perhaps even your wildest dreams in a single image. This workshop helps you translate ideas into images using a scanner as a digital capture device and encourages you to create images that are uniquely your own. With a full week to work in the digital lab, participants learn how a scanner works, experiment with the types of 3-D objects that work best for scanning, and explore layers, masking, and various techniques to assemble and blend multiple images into one. Field trips provide opportunities to collect found objects and botanical samples for scanning.

We experiment with digital output on textiles and a variety of fine-art papers designed for inkjet printing. By the end of the week, participants are comfortable using a scanner and combining images, and return home with captured images and ideas for future personal projects. This workshop is ideal for the photographer seeking new ways to make photographs, the traditional collage/assemblage artist interested in exploring the digital world, and the textile artist who wants to use digital capture for textile design and digital output.
