Kitchen Blog

Okay, so so many of you are having fun (and feeling our pain) by looking at the photos I thought I would do a blog about the kitchen renovation. This way you can follow along and get the narration as well as the photos! Feel free to make a comment back! Newest posts are first!

Groundhog Day

RobandBob.jpg

I feel like Bill Muray in 'Groundhog Day' - Everyday for the past 9 weeks I get up, get dressed, take the dogs out, give them breakfast, kiss John goodbye for work and make coffee for the contractor and his band of merry men.  School starts in 15 days. Oy! In these pics you'll see Rob the painter (left) sanding the back door to match the cabinets and Bob the Contractor problem-solving the saddle between the diningroom and livingroom. We are almost finished. I think.

The EBAY Ceiling chandelier is up!

So John re-wired the chandelier from EBAY and it's now proudly hanging in its new home. It's vintage is approx 1917, a little earlier than the house (1924) but it's close. It casts a strange orange glow when it is on!

95% finished! Sneak Peek!

Okay, you've been so patient, so here is a sneak preview of the kitchen- we are still missing some moldings  (above window for example) and minor stuff, but it's about 95% completed. Hopefully by the end of this week! I'm working on picking a paint color hence the imspiration from nature and from my pottery collection. Two contenders are Benjamin Moore's 'Celery Salt' and 'CrownPoint Sand.' It's looking very vintage!

Almost finished!

Dear Blog readers...

The kitchen is almost finished. The Granite is in, the appliances are in, and now comes the finishing details- the moldings, leveling things. We may be completed by next week, and untill then I am taking a vacation from making photos of the kitchen! You'll find me out in the secret garden sipping a glass of lemonade! Be back soon!

Granite

Yesterday we picked out the slab of granite- we picked it out months ago and still liked it- amazing! It's a very pretty color and doesn't look quite right in the photo- It is very light with gray, purple dots and a buttercream color.  It almost looks like marble. When the slabs are wet, like this one was, the color gets darker. It gets installed tomorrow so we shall see!

July 30

Well, the cabinets are in place, they are just getting "tweaked. Here's a view towards the back door. And no they are NOT crooked- it's just the angle/camera/etc.  We will have crown molding that goes all the way tot he ceiling. Tomorrow the granite gets installed. John and I picked out the actual slab yesterday, will post a pic of that next. It is HOT here in NJ and extremely HUMID. I worked in the garden for 4 hours and almost passed out!Cabinets-1.jpg

Need a break

Okay, You are not going to see a kitchen pic today. Instead, a photo of a nice butterfly from the garden. I'm tired of the kitchen, I'm tired of looking at the kitchen. I'm tired of photographing the kitchen. No, I'm EXHAUSTED from it all. I'm talking to the dogs as if they were co-workers. They are tired of the kitchen. They had peanut butter frosty paws today. I bought my mother shoes today which I will soon take to the post office (if the Granite templating man ever gets out of here) - she will probably not like them, or they will not fit. Either way I will have to take them back,  It's exhausting. And my computer keeps locking up and I can't fix it. I am about the scream. I am screaming.  Here's the butterfly.
